Brightwell is a vigorous and highly productive rabbiteye blueberry developed for warm Southern climates. It produces dependable crops of medium-sized, sweet blueberries with good firmness and an attractive blue color.

Its relatively low chilling requirement, heat tolerance, and upright growth make Brightwell an excellent choice for North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and other areas along the Gulf Coast.

Brightwell benefits greatly from cross-pollination with another rabbiteye blueberry that blooms at the same time.

North Florida Growing Note: Brightwell is well suited to North Florida because its chilling requirement matches the region’s generally mild winters. Plant it in full sun and acidic, well-drained soil. Pine bark mulch can help conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and maintain the acidic growing conditions blueberries prefer.

Pollination Note: Brightwell may produce some fruit by itself, but planting it near a different rabbiteye variety with a similar bloom period will improve berry size, fruit set, and total production. Southern highbush blueberries are not the preferred pollinators for rabbiteye varieties.

Pruning Note: Young blueberry plants need very little pruning beyond removing weak or damaged growth. As the plant matures, remove some of the oldest canes near ground level after harvest or during winter to encourage productive new growth.
